Biography

Martin Kaptein is a dutch pianist, in love with music and philosophy as a combination.

Presently, Martin is busy promoting and performing pieces by the Russian composer Alexander Scriabin. Martin is currently working on a program entirely consisting of lesser-known works of this composer.

For this, Martin has a lot of recitals planned such as:

  • Recitals in December 2020 and the first half of 2021 for the Grachtenfestival initiative.
  • Recitals in 2021, exclusively featuring music by Alexander Scriabin for the European Scriabin Society based in Amsterdam.

Moreover, Martin is working on his own initiative, Scriabin Club, which is a project to promote music and philosophy as a combination, and to promote cultural enlightenment.

In 2020 Martin was finalist of the Grachtenfestival competition in the Netherlands. This festival granted Martin the opportunity to play a lot of recitals in Amsterdam, but also all over the Netherlands.

Martin won the famous “St. Cecilia International Piano competition” in Porto, Portugal in 2015, for which he was re-invited for solo-recitals in the consecutive years. In 2019 together with his trio, Martin won the chamber music competition of the ArtEZ conservatory in Zwolle.

Martin studied with famous musicians and teachers, such as Michail Markov, Frank van de Laar and Vitaly Samoshko. He holds a bachelor diploma, and for his master he studies in Tilburg, The Netherlands. Martin himself is also a passionate piano teacher.
